Hairy Potter and the Hat Fiasco

New hairs with hats are out now!  I had a lot of problems setting this hair up. I think i rescripted it about 7 or 8 times before all was said and done.  Giant thanks to Sol and Lur for beta and stress testing it for me.  After initially releasing it yesterday, I found one more problem. In order to make the hair copy/mod (as I think all hair NEEDS to be) the textures used in the hat were vulnerable to theft.  Now I'm not sure if and/or why anyone would want my hat textures, but if SL of late has proved anything, it's that people will steal anything.  I'd just rather not give them any reason to think it's ok to use my work without permission, so I pulled the hats off the market.

Enter Joannah Cramer and her magic scripting (it must be magic!). She whipped up a texture changing script that's so secure, if you try to even look at the textures, it will hunt your granny down and kick her in the crotch.  This is a good thing if you're a creator. Not such a good thing if you're a granny with bad grandchildren!

Rebuilding

Reconstruction started yesterday in Celestial City. Hopefully the new build will not only look fabulous, but it will clear up the texture loading issues we've been dealing with for awhile now.

Aside from the hat issues, yesterday was not too smooth for me. Originally, I thought we'd planned to rebuild in Twid's Taunt sim, which is next door to CC, private and mostly empty. Then pick up the build and move it to CC when done, via Rez Foo. Apparantly this was miscommunication. Our builders thought we were moving to Taunt permanently.  So at the last minute we had to shut the sim down and shoot 6500 prims 250m into the air.  The asset server doesn't seem to like when you do that very much. There were multiple crashes, relogs and tears all around.  After about 3.5 hours it was done! I restarted the region to hopefully refresh it and clear some of the lag from moving so many assets at once. IMPORTANT: This is NOT a good idea!  When the sim came back up, almost everything was back on the ground, so we had the joy of doing it over again.  Well, after I snapped at poor live-helper Adam Linden who told me I'd need to contact the concierge and could expect a response in one to two days.  Maybe snapping at Lindens answers this question:

Where's my letter?

I was the high bidder on the SL hoodie in the RFL auction. Which as you can clearly see here, it was *supposed* to have a letter from Philip Linden included:

I got the hoodie today and the letter was conspicuously absent. I paid $150 bucks for that hoodie, I want my damn letter! ^.^ Methinks the Lindens don't like me very much. But why should they? It's not like I'm a producer in SL and they get a 5% cut. :P

At least I still have my boyfriend!
