Coming soon: Charmed Skins for Redheads!
So, my latest skin project has been making some mods to my line of Charmed Skins to make them more compatible for blonde and redheaded avatars. I was really hoping that we'd get generalized texture layers sooner than now so I wouldn't have to do this, but it seems like it's still very far off, so I decided it was time!
The first thing I learned was that there are about 50 million shades of red hair running around SL and there's just no way I can possibly match them all. I decided to go with a darker red, since eyebrows are typically a shade or two darker than your hair anyway, and I'd always rather have my eyebrows a little too dark than a little too light.
I'm pretty happy with how the color looks with most of the red wigs I tried on. I'm attaching some pictures so you can see how it looks compared to a few different red shades (shown above with the auburn shade from Lashed, and below with my own auburn, copper and henna colors as well as ETD's auburn and fire red).
For this redhead skin, I've added a sprinkling of freckles across the shoulders and nose. I will probably make this version on my current tones 30 and 40 and then an unfreckled version for tone 20.
Input needed
So, now that I have that all figured out, here comes the hard part: MAKEUP! I am not going to be doing every charmed makeup on these new skins, just the ones that are most complimentary. This is where you come in! I would *love* to get some feedback from some redheads on which makeups they'd like to see brought over, or some ideas for all new makeup! So far I plan on some of the neutrals and earth tones, some of the glosses and am bouncing an idea around in my head for something in peach/green. So! I loooove the freckles!! *starts saving*. When I wear red hair, I try and wear peachy/neutral colours to compliment it. So I think you're thinking along the right lines with the peach/green!

Hiya Tartbutt....
I have a super duper best friend that is a natural red head...and she wears a lot of pinks. Like pale pinks and baby pinks. She looks really pretty. And to add drama when going out, she used to really do a charcoal smokey eye and a deep coral lip color (orange pink) and looked so hawt!!

I'd like to see the Earth 2 combo especially transferred over.
Also, I think a sort of pale off-white shimmer eyeshadow looks really very very cool with red hair and eyebrows.
And yay for blondes!
(Can I also suggest that you use Elika's Copper Burnt as a test texture? It's a little bit more orangey than the hairs you've posted here.)

Yay! Thanks for the input, hopefully this means I'm on the right track. I hadn't given a lot of thought to pink, I just have that old "redheads should never wear pink" rule stuck in my head for some reason, but now that I think about it, it's surely antiquated. I think anyone can wear any color if they choose the correct shade.
As for the eyebrows matching lighter/brighter reds and a tone 40 without freckles, I don't think I'll be doing that. At least not along with this release. Don't get me wrong, I love options! I know other people love options and I like giving them options. That being said, every option I make increases the amount of work and time I have to spend making these, and flat out doubles the size of my inventory and the number of prims I have to use to display them all. If/when we get those extra texture layers, you can be sure I'll offer every hair/freckle/color/cheese combo I can think of and let people combine their own mix.
I think I'll try out this current scenario and if there is enough demand, I'll consider making more redheaded options before GTLs.

My avi is more of a carrot-top redhead than a deep auburn redhead, so her skin is lighter, freckly, and she looks good in pinks, light blue, coral, and KEY LIME GREEN (paler than lime green). Neutrals and earth tones are also good, as long as the skin tone is not very dark or matte—think of luminous skin with veins slightly showing through…Very dark eyeliner looks bad on her, as do dark, thick eyebrows. Hope this helps :)

Please please please have a 'no makeup' and some 'very light makeup' options. I really appreciate makeups that are done with a light hand, rather than dark liner and too much shadow.

I think gold eyeshadow and like a pale gloss might look good, or even no eyeshadow and a red lipstick (but not that red where it is too bright or too dark). I have seen many redheads with red lipstick and no eyeshadow, and they look pretty nice.
However you need to find the right shade of red, or else it will look too much.

A no makeup and a light makeup would be wonderful additions! We tend to wear neutral shades and can certainly get away with pale pink as lipstick. Just for Redheads (http://just4rh.stores.yahoo.net/) sells RL makeup designed for the natural palor that comes with the freckles and the hair. =)

This is fantastic news. I have been searching for a good freckled skin for SOOO long. How long until "soon" is here? :)
What I'd really like to see is a skin with some light freckles over the entire body. :) These do not seem to exist in SL.

i guess I'll put my two cents in...I colored my hair red in rl for about 8 years straight. My makeup advisor found that clinique lipstick in tenderheart went perfectly with my hair color...I find it doesn't look so hot with brown hair...but you may want to give it a look-see for the reds. Pasting the weblink...scroll to the bottom and roll over the tenderheart label to view the color.

being a redheaded teenager, i use browns and earth colors like you say. most people say what looks the best on me is my shimmery eyeshadow with a tiny bit of dark purple in it. and black around the crease of the eye and light in the middle looks good too
